Florida SuperCon 2017 Impressions

First things first, we would like to thank Mike and Sandy for inviting us to this wonderful event. We met so many amazing cosplayers, vendors, artist, games, special guests, and just people in general.

Supercon was held at The Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center from July 27th – 30th. Even though the line for parking was a bit long, it was great once inside. We saw so many cosplayers during our visit. We were amazed at the talent on display, how gifted they were, and with all the hard work they put into their outfits. In my eyes, all the cosplayers we saw are winners in our books.

I went dressed as Bane this year, and I must admit it felt so good to be around other cosplayers talking, making new friends, and seeing old friends. I got so much joy seeing kids excited when they see their favorite heroes, villains, cartoon characters, and more. Seeing the joy on their faces makes everything so worth it when going dressed up.

The special guests were great! Peter Capaldi, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and much more!! These stars were awesome to see in person. They ranged from voice actors to WWE wrestlers, to Taimak. You get starstruck when you see all of them in one area and have no control in what to say to them.

(Ed note: TAIMAK!!!)

All the comics and videos games we saw on sale in the vendor areas were enough to make us stop time and enjoy a good read or ogle. I swear, there is not enough time in one day to enjoy all the art, games, comics, stars, and events on display in a convention as comprehensive as this. I see why this must be a 4-day event. There is so much to take in that you can’t do it all in one day.

We do hope to one day do a live podcast of the four-day event for SuperCon and other cons that Mike and Sandy do. They have always been such gracious hosts, and the Digital Crack team looks forward to attending another one of their awesome events.

Personal Note from Uncle Willy

I don’t usually get to attend many conventions. There are lots of reasons why; most of them involve me being a fat, crippled bastard. But I made it a point to attend Florida SuperCon 2017. Part of the reason was reputation. Punisher has always gushed over the shows that Mike and Sandy put together, A bigger part, however, was my desire to go with my 16-year-old daughter. She and my son are the biggest parts of my life, and I love spending as much time with them as possible.

My daughter was dying to go to SuperCon. She had two very good reasons for wanting to attend: Chuck Huber and Vic Mignogna. Both are accomplished voice actors, and both voice anime characters my daughter loves (Yu Yu Hakusho‘s Hiei and Fullmetal Alchemist‘s Edward Elric, respectively). She’s wanted to meet Huber for quite a while; I think she’s been wanting to meet Mignogna since before she was conceived.

Both were present at Florida SuperCon. She HAD to meet them both! She did.

Seeing her beam as she spoke to them and took pictures with them was awesome. I know voice actors frequent many Cons all the time. The fact that both Chuck Huber and Vic Mignogna were at SuperCon was very fortuitous. The fact that Mike and Sandy facilitated the ability for my daughter to meet them both is wonderful.

Thank you, Mike and Sandy. Florida SuperCon 2017 was amazing. The look on my daughter’s face, thanks to your generosity, was priceless.
