Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Impressions

rogue one

Warning: major spoilers ahead!I! No, seriously, extremely major spoilers!!!!!

This movie is just amazing! So much passion and, of course, tears. Let’s also not forget the Easter eggs you’re going to find and amazing CGI done in this movie also nods to the Star Wars cartoons, books, and movies.

This movie was perfect in every way possible. This fills that little gap in the movie, “A New Hope,” about how they got the plans to destroy the Death Star. The emotions in this movie were high, and you grow to love the characters in this movie until the very end, where they all die.

If I missed something please feel free to correct me or if you want to talk about it.

This story is about Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), the daughter of Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen). He helped build the Death Star against his will, but he betrayed the Empire when he made the flaw in the Death Star that we all learned about in “A New Hope.” Now Jyn, not really knowing too much of her father or even if he’s still alive, is used by the Rebels to find Galen and kill him, after which they plan to get rid of her.

Jyn set off with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and K-2S0 (voiced by Alan Tudyk) on this adventure, not knowing what lies ahead of them. We run into Chirrut Imwe (the blind kiss-ass guy played by Donnie Yen) and Baze Malbus (Wen Jiang), who protects Chirrut and is also his best friend. Chirrut has some sort of low level force in him. He can spot people quick, predicts if they are good or not, and also is fast as fuck when fighting. I mean this guy dodges when being shot but then again he’s being shot by a Stormtrooper. Insert Acme gun joke here.

We learn a great value of things here. We learn that Galen left a recording for Jyn with Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), pretty much telling her how to destroy the Death Star. But the bad news is that, as she is watching her dad’s message, the Death Star firest a test shot at the planet she is on. She must race to evade death, something Saw is unable to do.

What’s the significance of all that? Now, Jyn has no physical proof that her father is conspiring against the Empire. Of course, the rebels don’t find her trustworthy because of her past as a criminal. Just fucking great guys!!!

Cassian has orders to kill Galen so he’s pretty much egging Jyn on to go find her dad to prove them wrong. They land on a planet where he should be and Cassian and some other guy goes out to search for him, Jyn goes out also to look for him. Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus leave also to help if help is needed. Cassian sets up his rifle to shoot Galen while Jyn is climbing up to the bridge to get a closer look. An Imperial ship lands with some Death Troopers and Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), who is a lieutenant for the Republic. We see that Jyn’s father comes out and Orson asks him to bring out the other scientist that helped build the Death Star. Once all of them are out, he lets them know Galen has done a great job but there was a snitch leaking the information about the Death Star. Galen steps up before they shoot the other scientists, but he gets slapped in the face and the scientists dies by execution. Cassian was ready to shoot until he saw what just happened, seeing Galen was not the bad guy and Jyn was telling the truth. But the rebels sent out some ships to go fight and the crew had no idea that they were in the middle of it.  I’m going to skip the fights, but Galen dies by a bomb that blew up by him. At least he got to see his girl again before passing away, and managed to share some more information about the Death Star. Again, you’re going to cry during this movie, so bring some tissues.

Jyn and crew escape to report what’s going on but the rebels can’t go fight based on a feeling and need hard evidence on this flaw of the Death Star. The crew decides to go Rouge and get the information themselves without any help. You can imagine what they called their ship… Rouge One! ROLL CREDITS!

They infiltrate the area where the data of the Death Star is and all hell breaks loose! You see the sacrifice that was done to get the information that was needed. You see everyone dying. The more heartbreaking for me would be Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus. Chirrut would chant “I’m one with the Force, and the Force is in me,” while going out in the middle of gunfire and to help his friend to complete the mission by turning on the power to send the signal past the force field. Once done, they threw a bomb which got him. Baze comes to the field and goes to him to help him but it’s too late. With the little bit of life he has in him he tell him to repeat the chant and one day they will meet again. Baze, with tears in his eyes, starts the chant and shoots every Stormtrooper left until he dies by a bomb that a trooper was going to throw but landed beside him.

Jyn gets the information and uploads it to the nearest ship and they get the information out. In one quick move, the Death Star shoots the planet and we are left with Jyn and Carssian by the beach waiting for their faith to die in the planet and hold each other. Carssian lets her know that her father would be proud of what she did.

We get a chance to see Vader in this movie, and I must say he’s a pure badass!!! Force chokes and all this man did made me happy when I saw him. Also showing up in this movie our princess Leia CGI to protection! The only CGI I was not too fond of was Governor Tarkin. Don’t get me wrong, it looked good and my wife would not know that Peter Cushing, the original actor who played Grand Moff Tarkin, died 2014 until I pointed it about and let her know. She was stunned! There were some good cameos also

I’m planning to see this movie again soon. But I’m giving this movie a solid 9.5 outta 10. Why 9.5??? Well again, some of the CGI was a little off. But other than that, the movie was perfect in my eyes. Please feel free to comment about this. I would love to hear your thoughts and talk about it.
