We’ve seen a cinematic trailer and some screenshots, but now, Funcom has released the first gameplay footage for the upcoming Conan Exiles.
The video (which contains pre-alpha footage) showcases things like sweeping sandstorms and a giant, bat-like creature. Also on display are some fighting mechanics and one particuarly gruesome kill where a player is sliced in half at the torso. We also get a look at Exiles’ building systems, which will allow you to create your own shack or even a full village, if you’re ambitious enough.
As announced previously, you don’t play as Conan the Barbarian, but rather as an “exile” who has been crucified and left to die. In keeping with the Conan tradition, Conan Exiles aims to be brutal as it relates to violence.
“You see heads coming off, you see arms coming off, you see blood, you see gore, you see dents in armor,” Funcom said previously. “These are the things we’re aiming for.”
Exiles is described as an open-world game. It is multiplayer-centric, though you can play alone, too.
The game will launch for PC through Steam Early Access on September 13, according to the game’s Steam page. A console version is also in the works, but Funcom has not provided any details on it outside of announcing its existence.
