Mario 3 Speedrunner Races Stephen Colbert Cooking a Hot Pocket

As a fan of both the Games Done Quick speedrunning charity events and Stephen Colbert, I just couldn’t pass up a chance to see this!

(For the record, I prefer The Colbert Report over The Late Show, but he still has some magic bits in his new format.)

Mitch Fowler, aka Mitchflowerpower, appeared on The Late Show as a way to promote Summer Games Done Quick, a charity event currently running and lasting until July 10th. Mitchflowerpower, the current record holder for Super Mario Bros. 3 speedruns at 3:08, was challenged by Colbert to a race. Colbert attempted to open, heat, and eat a Hot Pocket faster than Fowler could finish a Super Mario Bros. 3 speed run. To make it more interesting, the Columbia University 4×400 track & field relay team was running a heat at the same time.

The concept for the race seems a bit silly but…well, see for yourself.

He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
