The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already confirmed to be available for the Nintendo NX soon after launch. According to a report, Nintendo will have a Mario and Pokemon available for the system within six months after launch.
MCV, citing “sources close to Nintendo”, reports that Nintendo wants to start the NX off with a bang. In addition to Breath of the Wild, Nintendo plans to get other heavyweight franchises on the system around launch.
Game Freak is going to bring a Pokemon title to the NX. It is unclear if it’s going to be a new game in the mainline series or a port of Pokemon Sun/Moon, which will launch this year for the Nintendo 3DS. There will also be a new Mario title, but there are no details on this game, either.
In addition to its first-party properties, Nintendo has reportedly secured support from third-party publishers. So far, the committed publishers are reported to be Ubisoft, Square Enix, Activision, Sega, and Warner Bros. Ubisoft in particular has been vocal about its praise for the Nintendo NX.
The NX was first revealed in March 2015. The late Satoru Iwata had said after the announcement that it was a “brand new concept” for video game platforms. Although not officially confirmed by Nintendo, many sources have stated that the “brand new concept” is a hybrid portable/home system with detachable controllers that can be played on the go and on a home TV.
The global release date for the NX is March 2017. Nintendo hasn’t provided any substantial information about the new system itself.
