The Clone Wars’ Hondo returns.

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
Hondo! Okay, yes, Season 2 of Rebels is going pretty heavy early on with the Star Wars: The Clone Wars characters, much in the same way Season 1 leaned on a lot of original trilogy characters initially. But Hondo is an especially fun component who brings a different energy than others and his return led to a very enjoyable installment.
There were a ton of great Hondo lines here – so much so that I could just list one after the other. But a few highlights included, “At last, I meet the semi-famous Lando Calrissian!”, “The stories I could tell… so many of them true” and when he replied to Azmorigan’s crack about not working with washed up, old relics with, “Let’s leave your wife out of this.”
We want to hear it.
While I still hope more of the Rebels supporting cast get their time in the spotlight, Ezra’s dynamic with Hondo was a good one – and a nice way for Ezra to imagine a very different, more “free” life as a pirate, as he bristled under so many lessons and orders, as every teenager does.

Also, let’s celebrate Chopper shooting two guns while barreling forward on his middle leg! That was certainly a highlight, as was Hondo going from exclaiming, “I’m rich!” to “I’m dead!” before Ezra saved him.
The Ghost crew letting Hondo go, despite all his double dealing, lying and other dastardly deeds was understandable – after all, even with the larger Rebel Alliance helping, there still isn’t a big enough system in place to try locking up a guy like this; one who could actually help you down the line… if you can go long enough without him stabbing you in the back. In the meantime, it’s great to have Hondo back in play, seeing he’s lost a lot (as he lamented, his crew was long gone), but was still as ready with an angle as ever.
