I’ve been a huge fan of the Ace Combat series ever since the first title, Air Combat, released on the original PlayStation. I have played all the mainline series, which were exclusive to Sony consoles until Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, which was curiously only for the Xbox 360. Until now, however, the only multiplatform title in the series has been Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. That entry changed too much of the hybrid action/simulation style of air combat that I love about the series. I wasn’t a fan.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is a return to the narrative style of the mainline series. Here is the word from BANDAI NAMCO:
-
Fully rendered clouds fill the skies while highly detailed cityscapes enhance the sense of supersonic speed, setting the stage for highly exhilarating aerial battles.
-
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown will provide an arsenal of ultra-modern and near-future super weapons for players to wield, while presenting formidable enemies for pilots to vanquish in the air.
-
Aces who have proven their aerial combat prowess in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown’s campaign mode can take their dogfighting skills online for furious online multiplayer battles.
-
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown also marks the return of Sunao Katabuchi as the lead writer behind the fictional storyline that players will experience in the game. Previously, Sunao Katabuchi wrote the storylines for both Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies and Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown was originally set to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Now, however, BANDAI NAMCO have announced that the title will also be releasing on Xbox one and PC as well. The game will still see a PlayStation VR version; there’s no word on a VR PC version. There is also no firm release date, with the trailer only announcing a release this year. As a rabid fan of the other mainline games, I am really looking forward to this game.
