Akuma Being Added to Street Fighter V

Suddenly, all seems right with the world.

During the Capcom Pro Tour North America finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds in Seattle, Washington this past weekend, a teaser video for Street Fighter V was run. The video, clocking in at a mere 24 seconds, fills my heart with joy.

In it, a bleak scene of a dilapidated dojo during a storm almost immediately fades to black. Soon, a familiar gruff voice is heard speaking Japanese as white kanji and colored blasts start to fill the screen. The barrage ends with a single glowing kanji front and center. Finally, a figure’s back fades in, standing aggressively, wearing a very familiar gi.

The video has teased that Akuma, wielder of Satsui no Hado and constant foil for Ryu, will be coming to Street Fighter V. There is no date for his release, but the trailer ends with a final tease: there will be more information during the PlayStation Experience on December 3rd-4th in Anaheim.

I have my personal experience with Akuma. He has been my go-to World Warrior ever since I accidentally discovered him in a Super Street Fighter II Turbo arcade cabinet. His omission prevented me from buying the game at launch, and his continued omission has kept me from playing the game past my initial impressions of it. If he does make it to the game using the same earn-in-game rules, I will be grinding the SHIT out of the game just to unlock him.

Suddenly, life has purpose.

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
