Uncle Willy

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.

Official Logan Trailer #2 Released

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for the upcoming movie, Logan. I included the red band trailer because I’m such a nice guy. The trailer focuses more on young Laura Kinney (Dafne Keen), aka X-23, and…well, let’s just say she has anger issues. She actually makes Logan’s (Hugh Jackman) old berzerker rages look like a mild disagreement between overly polite friends....[Read More]

Civilization VI Review

Civilization VI Review Developer: Firaxis Games Publisher: 2K Games Platform Reviewed: PC Release Date: October 21, 2016 Acquired via: Purchase by Reviewer This review is a bit late. I blame real life for being the unbending, cruel mistress she is. And I blame this game for making me want to ignore real life. It all started at 10 PM one day. I had launched Civilization VI with the aim of quickly t...[Read More]

Injustice 2 Story Trailer Released

A new story trailer has been released for the upcoming Injustice 2 game. While it doesn’t show any gameplay, the cinematics show a lot of the story behind the game. It’s quite dramatic. Also, I have to call shenanigans on the end bit. You will see why. Injustice 2 is set to release on May 19, 2017 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Retro Review: Baldur’s Gate (PC)

Release Date: 1998 Developer: BioWare Corporation Publisher: Interplay Productions, Inc. My love for role-playing games began with tabletop Dungeons & Dragons campaigns with some like-minded friends in the early 80s. It was a fleeting experience, since the DM ended up moving a couple of weeks after he introduced me to it. But I seriously enjoyed the experience. Fast forward nearly 20 years, an...[Read More]

Retro Review: SimCity (SNES)

Release Date: August 23, 1991 Developer: Maxis Software, Inc. Publisher: Nintendo of America, Inc. The Super Nintendo officially launched on August 23, 1991 in North America. It launched with a measly five games, but the games were noteworthy. Super Mario World was, of course, the heavy hitter and a pack-in title.  F-Zero and Pilotwings were the system’s tech mules, showing off the SNES’s “Mode 7”...[Read More]

GaCuCon Gaming Cruise Gives Me Reason to Get my Passport

I’ve never been on a cruise before. I have been on boats before; living in Miami, you end up on one sooner or later. But those trips have been relegated to tours around Biscayne Bay and (mostly) failed fishing trips. Thanks to GaCuCon, I might finally get on a real cruise ship. Let’s get this part out of the way first: this is not an ordinary day cruise to the Bahamas. GaCuCon combines three thing...[Read More]

2016 and Video Games: The Bullshit Year in Review

Every year, by the time Christmas passes, we all take stock in the year we had. Many of us look back, promise to do better next year, and look forward to a better New Year. I don’t make that promise, because I know I’m going to fuck up just as bad in the upcoming year as I did in the year I’m ending, if not worse. I’m old; I ain’t changing anything except my underwear, and even THAT can be prolong...[Read More]

Retro Review: Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)

Release Date: June 20, 1997 Developer: Square Co., Ltd. Publisher: Square Co., Ltd. (EDIT: the artwork was changed after several astute gamers noticed – and I didn’t! – that the artwork I originally used was for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the GBA, not the original.
