Batman: Return to Arkham, WB’s compilation that contains remastered versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, has been delayed until at least November. This followed Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s statement saying the game was indefinitely delayed.
Sources have told Eurogamer that the compilation, that was supposed to launch on July 26 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, has been having frame rate issues. The remastering is being handled by Chinese developer Virtuous Games, not the games’ original developers, Rocksteady. This may remind gamers of the struggles with the PC port of Batman: Arkham Knight, which was ported by Iron Galaxy Studios instead of Rocksteady.
The information given to Eurogamer does match somewhat with what a Warner Bros. representative stated last month when announcing the delay. The statement mentioned that the delay was necessary to give the team more time to “deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience,” suggesting there were some issues.
“After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience,” reads the statement.
“We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready. We know this is disappointing news, but we feel the extra time will allow the team to create the best gaming experience for our fans.”
Hopefully, Warner Bros. and Virtuous Games can hash out these problems and release the compilation without issues. I may not be a fan of remasters of last-gen games, but for those who didn’t get to play the first two games in the venerated series, this will be an excellent way for them to try them out.
