EA’s beta test of Battlefield 1 started off with a ton of frustration. Instead of testing the servers against the demands of thousands of players, they were instead crippled by a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.
PoodleCorp, a group that likes to take down online games when they’re not hacking YouTube accounts, tweeted that it wanted to take EA down. Sure enough, prospective testers have been unable to get into the game to test it out. Most of the Digital Crack staff has been apoplectic throughout the outage. There may be casualties…
Unfortunately, the DDoS attack affects more than the Battlefield 1 test. Madden NFL 17 and other games that rely on these servers have been neutered. EA has acknowledged the server outage but hasn’t identified the culprit.
EA’s acknowledgement was also tweeted on Battlefield’s account:
EA is currently experiencing an outage. EA games, services & support may be impacted. We’re working to resolve as fast as possible.

PoodleCorp declared their intention to knock out EA’s servers one hour before the actual DDoS attack. They also claim responsibility for EA’s server being briefly offline the night before, as well as an outage last month.
For those who wanted to put Battlefield 1 through its paces, this will certainly disappoint. Grumpy Joe, for one, is most displeased. Hopefully, he won’t take his aggression out on friendly units once the servers come back up.
