A response to a tweet on the Overwatch account has opened up some hope that Overwatch cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be possible: “There is no cross-platform play. We’ll keep an eye on cross-platform possibilities on the consoles.”
While the tweet does not confirm that Blizzard is working on console cross-play, it’s not out of the realm of possibility. Microsoft recently announced cross-play between other platforms, including the PS4. Sony has yet to reciprocate, but if they were to suddenly play nice, it’s all but certain Blizzard would jump on it.
Blizzard has shot down the possibility of console-to-PC cross-play, saying in a later tweet about the idea, “We have no plans for that. Mixing mouse/keyboard and controller can have balance and competitive issues.”
