Blizzard Working to Stream Their PC Games Directly to Facebook

Blizzard Entertainment announced that is it working with Facebook to implement Facebook’s Live API into its current list of games. Once implemented, players will be able to use their Facebook login to access Blizzard games on PC, including Overwatch, Hearthstone, World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft 2, and Diablo III.

While the immediate benefit of this partnership will be an easy way to open up Blizzard’s games to Facebook’s more than 1 billion active users, their long-term plans involve using the Facebook Live API to add more social functionality to its games.

Blizzard says it’s working on adding “Go Live” streaming to its games, making its streaming ability much simpler. “Go Live” will allow players to press a button and stream gameplay live to their Facebook timeline. It will also allow any friends to watch and chat with them while they stream.

Gio Hunt, the executive vice president of corporate operations for Blizzard, said the company is “working closely with Facebook on this integration for Overwatch, as well as our other games.”

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
