Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Koji Igarashi’s anticipated Metroidvania-style platformer, has been delayed to the first half of 2018. The original release date was set for March 2017.

In a video titled “Development Update 6” on the game’s YouTube channel, Igarashi addressed the delay. “Things have been progressing with development for Bloodstained, but between our current production setup and release deadline, I’ve realized that at this rate, the game may not end up meeting my quality standards.”

Bloodstained was Kickstarted on May 2015 and has raised a total of $5.5 million. The game was the most funded video game on Kickstarter until Shenmue III surpassed it one month later.

Igarashi also mentioned that he is in the process of adding another development team to the project to try to “keep the game fully on track for how I envision it.”

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, Windows PC, Linux, and Mac.

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
