Bryan Cranston Added as Zordon to Power Rangers Movie

Insert your “Blue Sky” jokes here.

Bryan Cranston, the actor most recently known for his portrayal of Walter White in the AMC TV series Breaking Bad, has been cast as Zordon, the mentor of the Power Rangers, in the eponymous upcoming movie. Cranston announced the casting on his Twitter account:

The casting choice is a pretty nice callback for the actor. Bryan Cranston’s career began with voiceover work, including two of the villains in the original Power Rangers TV series. On the Tweet, Cranston makes reference to the fact that Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger, was named after him. Billy’s name was, in fact, inspired by Bryan.

It has not been mentioned if Cranston will simply voice the disembodied head Zordon or provide motion capture work. Considering the changes made for the movie already, I wouldn’t count out crazy versions of either scenario. I prefer the image of a blue Heisenberg looking down and commanding Rita Repulsa to “say my name!”

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
