This title is based on World War II, which was the conflict of choice before Modern Warfare brought modern-day combat to the series. It was the last time Infinity Ward would make a game in the series based on WWII; Treyarch handled Call of Duty 3. It was also the first of the series to use the IW Engine, which is used by all modern Call of Duty games.
This marks the second Call of Duty game to make it to Backwards Compatibility. The other title is Call of Duty: Black Ops.
