Extreme Skier Matilda Rapaport Killed While Filming for Ubisoft Game

Matilda Rapaport

Pro skier Matilda Rapaport was killed while shooting footage in Chile for the upcoming Ubisoft sports game Steep.

Her sponsor, Red Bull, reported the somber news to The Guardian. “Matilda was an extraordinary athlete, traveling the world to find her passion, ride steep terrain and share her bright smile,” Red Bull said.

Rapaport, 30, was caught in an avalanche on Monday in the Andes mountains near Santiago, Chile. She was rescued and given medical attention, but the Swedish skier succumbed to her injuries.

Ubisoft sent a statement to GameSpot expressing their sorrow. “We are deeply saddened to learn the death of Matilda Rapaport, the remarkable Swedish freeskiing athlete. During a video production in Chile on Thursday, July 14th, Matilda was caught in an avalanche. Despite the medical care and treatment over the subsequent days, it was not possible to save her life.”

“Matilda’s courage, passion, and desire to share the sport she loved with the world served as an inspiration for other athletes and for us all. This tragic accident has deeply touched us. Our hearts and prayers go out to her husband and her wider family at this difficult time.”

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
