Final Fantasy XV Getting More DLC, Season Pass Holders are Screwed

When Square Enix peddled the Season Pass for Final Fantasy XV, it made sure to harp on the fact that the Season Pass would feature SIX DLCs. That’s a pretty good amount of DLC for a game. Well, it turns out SquEnix wants to add even more DLC to the game. That’s great, except Season Pass holders won’t grab the extra DLC as part of their purchase.

Speaking to Famitsu magazine, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata discussed many aspects of the game. During the interview, Famitsu asked Tabata-san if the DLC production was being held off in lieu of the game’s delay in release.

“Yes, that’s right. And of course, we’ve already planned out the DLCs,” said Tabata. “We’re currently rearranging the schedule for everything to go along with the delay of the main game, so I can’t say much more in detail for now.”

When Famitsu asked about the prospect of more DLC, Tabata-san said, ““That won’t be all. The ones that we’ve announced are the ones were decided that we’ll certainly do.”

The Season Pass covers the first six DLCs recently announced by SquEnix. Famitsu asked Tabata-san whether the extra DLC will be covered by the Season Pass. That’s when Tabata-san dropped the bomb.

“Yes. Should we decide on DLC that isn’t included in the Season Pass that is currently selling, then that’s how it’ll be. Although there are still many parts that are uncertain.”

That’s been a recent bugaboo with Season Passes. Games like Mortal Kombat X and the original Evolve were able to introduce new content that either wasn’t covered by the Season Pass or was part of a totally separate Season Pass. Players who buy into the Season Pass feel short-changed as the extra money they paid for downloadable content does not cover ALL the content the publisher wants to make available. Famitsu mentioned as much to Tabata-san, saying Season Pass holders may feel they’re entitled to all DLC and may want at the very least to have a chance to buy into to the remaining content. Famitsu then asked about their plans to add more via DLC.

“But of course. Not only costumes, but we also plan on increasing the cooking repertoire as well,” Tabata-san said. “That said, our priority is to polish up the main game for the time being. Once we get some wiggle room, then I believe we’ll get to seriously work on development for DLC and VR content. And by the way, the Season Pass, and the episodic DLC that were announced along with; are different from the VR content.”

Final Fantasy XV releases on November 29th for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
