Florida SuperCon Impressions

Florida SuperCon

Lights, Camera, Cosplay!!!!

This 4th of July weekend was full of surprises, movie stars, shows, and famous cosplayers. Florida SuperCon is one of the biggest cons located in sunny South Florida. Running this event is Mike – also known as SuperCon Mike – and Sandy Martin. We have the privilege to attend the event and also meet some great people, including Sandy Martin and Mr. Broder himself. The event started on Friday the 1st of July and ended on the 4th.

This con had everything! People from different states came to this event and had a blast dressed up as their favorite comic book, movie and TV show icons. Vendors were selling anime, art, props for games and movies, retro video games and more. Stars from movies and shows they’ve been on or done voices for were present and talking with fans. It was such a privilege to see these stars, shake their hands, and just have a conversation about their history and really get to know them. I was overwhelmed with all of this happening, and there was still so much to do! During the day, they would have panels where the stars would go on stage and talk about everything, giving fans a chance to ask them a question. The stars that SuperCon featured include Henry Winkler, Morena Baccarin, Ben McKenzie, William Shatner, Elizabeth Henstridge, René Auberjonois, Bruce Boxleitner, Jeremy Bulloch, Michael Cudlitz, Nancy Cartwright…and the list goes on.

On Saturday they hosted a huge event where cosplayers competed and showed off their work for everyone. I honestly have to say that they are all winners in my book and wish I had half of the talent they have. So for those cosplayers reading this, we say you are all #1 in our book!

There were 4 divisions in the contest: Master, Journeyman, Novice, and Junior/Youth. In this contest, they give out prizes to the winners:

BEST IN SHOW: $1,500 CASH PRIZE, LIFETIME PASS TO ALL SUPERCON EVENTS, AWARD TROPHY
* Con Chair Spotlight: $400 cash prize & Award trophy
* Masters Award: $300 cash prize & Award trophy

For those that didn’t get to do the costume contest, it still feel awesome when you have kids and adults asking to take a picture of you. Overall this is just awesome and super enjoyable.

I should also point out that this is not the only convention that Mr. Broder organizes. Besides SuperCon, he also has Anime Miami, Paradise City Comic Con, Pinned (Pinned is The Pin up Culture, Rockabilly, Burlesque, and Tattoo Festival) and more. The Digital Crack Network family wants to thank Sandy Martin and Mike Broder for inviting us to this amazing event, and hope to one day to do a live podcast from these Cons soon. We hope to see you all very soon!
