“If my son is dead, winning isn’t the point. Gotham will burn!” – Don Falcon
Ok, this episode of Gotham was actually pretty good. We are back to focusing on Mario and Lee’s plan for the wedding. It is only two days away. Where will to be some spoilers ahead within this article.
Lee and Mario are leaving a dinner they are having at Mario’s father place, a place where Falcon likes to eat. One of the help goes and gets the car and it explodes, so who is dumb enough to make an attempt on Falcon? But this isn’t the only thing going on. We still need to continue with Nygma wanting revenge on Butch for “killing” Isabella. But, what about the key that was shown during the last episode? Well, we also get answers for the key. So I will split everything within sections to make it easier for myself and hopefully for you, the reader.
Let’s start off Mario and Lee, after the attempt on their lives and Falcon’s. The bomb is made to look like a mob hit. Falcon provides Jim one day to figure everything out. Seeking to find out who has all the military grade firepower within Gotham, they go looking for the guy only to find him dead. Falcon is not the target, Mario is. Question is, why Mario? What has he done that someone wants to take him out? Falcon eventually finds out towards the end of the show who made the attempt on his son. It’s someone he has dealt with before and has done some dealing with. Oh and by the way, you don’t ever want to be in the receiving end of an interrogation with Don Falcon, so let’s keep that in mind. Lee finally says her goodbye with Jim, but Mario only sees her leaving Jim’s apartment and starts hearing voices in his head. Is Mario infected with Alice’s’ virus?
Now onto Nygma’s revenge for the death of Isabella, Tabitha and Butch are now his prisoner, tied up and gagged. Barbara is on the hunt for Tabitha and Butch, because she knows they are missing since Tabitha didn’t check in. After finding out Penguin’s true affection towards Edward, thanks to Olga the housekeeper, she is able to find where Edward is holding them through some bills coming to the house. After torturing Butch, Edward notices he wouldn’t tell him what he wanted to hear. But honestly, how can Butch say he killed Isabella when he didn’t? Best thing to do is threaten the one person Butch loves. After putting Tabitha’s hand through a guillotine, offering the choice to save her hand or kill Butch, Butch says this, “Tabby, baby, the last few weeks have been the best of my life,” he says. “And it’s okay you don’t love me ‘cause I love you. And for a guy like me, that’s enough.” After finding out the truth that Butch didn’t kill Isabella, now Edward is back to square one.
The Court of Owls is back in this episode – or their presence is. The mysterious key belongs to the Court and Bruce is freaking out because he doesn’t want the Court to think he went back on their agreement. The men who were chasing Ivy, Selina and Bruce are members of the Whisper Gang. If the show goes with Bruce becoming Batman eventually, this will not be the only time that Bruce and the Whisper Gang will cross paths. Also, we do get to see Talon towards the end of the of the episode, but there is still more left to see what will happen with this storyline.
I did enjoy this episode a lot. There were moments that I should have expected but didn’t think were gonna happen. I am seeing that Bruce is growing up more into his own persona. Seeing how involved the Court of Owls is within this episode and hearing them called by name was a plus. It was great seeing Edward wanting to get revenge and continue from the last episode with his grieving process of the death of Isabella. Everything seems to be wrapping up for the mid-season finale of the show. I don’t mind a lot of things getting wrapped up but certain story elements should not yet, like the Court of Owls. The pacing was good and I loved the tension that was brought within this episode. Now next week is the Wedding episode, so this will be interesting to see with Mario seeming to be infected with the virus.
