In a move that will no doubt surprise about three people, Sony and Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo Sport will no longer release in 2016. The release window is now 2017.
“[A]s we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, to which we’ve already dedicated so much effort to since announcing the title, and do not want to compromise the experience,” Polyphony founder and Gran Turismo head Kazunori Yamauchi wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date.”
Gran Tursimo Sport is the first title in the series for the PlayStation 4. Earlier this year, Yamauchi announced the cancellation of the beta test for the game. The reasoning for the cancellation was the desire to work on the full game in order to meet the release date.
This is not the first time Polyphony Digitial has delayed Gran Turismo games. Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3 was delayed for five years; Gran Turismo 4 saw a one year delay.
