She’s bringing sexy back.

The latest iZombie was terrific, combining an especially funny “zombie brain of the week” with some big developments in the ongoing storylines, which began to bring previously separate elements (and characters) together in a very big manner.
Liv “in heat” (as Malcolm Goodwin described it to me on a visit to the set of this episode) was hysterical, beginning with the moment she fantasized about randomly making out with that nurse. As always, Rose McIver completely committed her, showing a very blunt, sexually aggressive version of Liv, who seemed to fetishize almost everyone in her life. Seeing her caress Clive’s back or spank Ravi (and suggest he do the same to her) was incredibly funny and the immense likability of the iZombie cast shined through in these moments, as everyone tried to deal with Liv’s advances.
We want to hear it.
The much-hyped Kristen Bell audio cameo was certainly funny too, and allowed for a little meta moment, but would have been far more effective if it hadn’t been announced ahead of time.
While the humor is what really propelled this plot, it was a decent mystery too, with a couple of moments where it seemed the killer had been found all doubling back on the dead woman, Grace’s, husband – in a situation that was played for tragedy, ultimately, despite Grace’s outwardly amusing sexual interests.
Meanwhile, it was thrilling to see how much the plotlines began to intersect. If it had simply been seeing how close Clive and Bozzio got to catching Major, it would have been exciting enough – but that was just the beginning, as Bozzio began to get closer to targeting Blaine as the Chaos Killer, even if she wasn’t right about that.

I must note how well Jessica Harmon is fitting in on iZombie as Bozzio. She and Malcolm Goodwin play very well off each other and her sense of humor and enthusiasm are perfect – especially when we saw how excited she got, laying out why she thought Blaine was the guy they were after.
Peyton bursting in to help free Blaine, as he was being interrogated by Clive and Bozzio, was an especially cool moment, considering how these characters had previously been so separated from one another. And while I briefly thought they were going into a Dark Peyton situation, I liked how instead, she was distraught to realize who Blaine was, as Liv gave her the full rundown on every horrible thing he’s done. On a lesser show, there would have been some reason for Liv to not share this information with Peyton. The question is what she does with this info now, given Blaine doesn’t know she knows…
Of course the most upsetting thing in this episode was… Major having to leave Minor behind on the bus!! Noooooo!!!! But seriously, this was a sad situation, added to by Ravi lamenting not being able to say goodbye. We better get some resolution on Minor being in a good home, dang it!
A ton happened in this episode, making it all the more impressive they still had time for such an entertaining persona for Liv to take on. Having both Liv & Drake (who Liv now realizes she knows little about) and Peyton & Blaine sleep together was a nice way to tie into this week’s lust-filled mystery – while the way Clive suddenly was interacting with Blaine (and nearly caught Major) was notably exciting to see, indicating we may see these ongoing storylines really begin to ramp up even more.
