Konami Tries Damage Control for Metal Gear Survive

In an attempt to counter the massive hate Metal Gear Survive has been receiving, Konami has resorted to damage control. Konami representative Richard Jones spoke to Eurogamer about the first entry in the series since the departure of Kojima-san.

In the interview, Jones confirms that the game will indeed have co-op and stealth gameplay. In the trailer uploaded to IGN’s YouTube channel, the gameplay shown was action-heavy and showed no stealth elements. (That video, by the way, sported a 6.5-1 dislike-to-like ratio.)

Jones also confirmed some details about the game as seen in the trailer. The game takes place after Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. A number of Mother Base soldiers get sucked into a wormhole, ending up in a “forbidding, foreboding, and alien-looking [desert] landscape.”

In the end, the only thing he could harp on was the supposed co-op elements. “I know when you’re watching the trailer it’s all very action-packed and it doesn’t really elicit that feeling, but there will be stealth and one of the really interesting things that we will be exploring and playing with is how stealth and co-op can actually co-exist.” This is only the second Metal Gear game to have co-op. The first was Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

The one thing Jones did not want to talk about – other than Kojima – were the zombies. The ridiculous story is not helping matters, either. One final thing that he did mention was that the game would not be a $60 game. That gives me an Operation Raccoon City vibe. Unfortunately, we will not know the quality of Metal Gear Survive until actual gameplay is shown. Personally, I’m not too excited for that prospect.

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
