There is currently only one version of the Xbox One S in stores: the 2 TB model. For those unsure about getting the upgraded console, know that this version is only available for a limited time. When it’s gone, it’s gone. Microsoft confirmed as much with GameSpot in a statement.
“The 2 TB Xbox One S was released as a special launch edition in limited quantities only. We’re thrilled at the amount of interest we’ve received and we are always looking for opportunities to offer choice and fantastic value to our fans. Please check with your local retailer to determine whether the 2 TB Xbox One S is still available in your market.”
At the time of this writing, the 2 TB model was available l online via GameStop and Amazon. When I tried to find one at my local GameStop, the site crashed. However, it was available at my local Best Buy and Wal-Mart stores. Some retailers say they’re sold out of their allotment. Eurogamer says the model is sold out in their neck of the woods. Your experience may vary.
It’s not the end of the world, though. August 23rd will see three Xbox One S bundles released. There’s the 1 TB Madden 17 bundle that is priced at $350. There are also 500 GB and 1 TB Halo 5: Guardians bundles listed at $300 and $350, respectively.
For those longing for a 2 TB variant but unable to grab one now, there is another chance to grab one later this year. The Gears of War 4 console bundle features a 2 TB hard drive and a red paint job. For those who miss out completely, have no fear. The Xbox One S is just as friendly with external hard drives as the original model. I have a 1 TB external hard drive attached to my VCR-sized Xbone, and I am most pleased with its utility.
