With the Nintendo Switch set to launch this Friday, March 3rd, there are bound to be quite a few people who are afraid they’ll miss out. After all, Nintendo’s notorious penchant for the under-allocating of product to build up artificial hype (read: being dicks!) is known. For those who haven’t or won’t pre-order, it may seem like scoring the hybrid console. Fortunately, some retailers are announcing plans to have them in stock for walk-up customers.
Today, Wal-Mart released a statement saying that they will offer Nintendo Switch consoles to people who didn’t pre-order. This is in addition to Best Buy and GameStop, who have made similar statements. Wal-Mart does, however, ask that customers call their local store to see when the consoles will be made available. Since not all Wal-Mart stores are open 24 hours a day, some stores will have stock available later than others.
“Starting at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on Friday, March 3, the Nintendo Switch will be available at Walmart Supercenters across the country for $299,” the statement reads. “Walmart will have the system available in gray, red and blue colors.”
Polygon asked Wal-Mart how many units each store will have and how the lines at stores will be handled but have not received a response.
