On May 25th, news sites like Kotaku began reporting that Hello Games’ highly-anticipated space exploration game, No Man’s Sky, was being delayed. There were no details at the time, just reports from trusted sources. On May 27th, Sony made the news official: No Man’s Sky was being delayed until August 9th.
The resulting shitstorm to the news, while predicable in part, has boggled even the most cynical of minds (i.e. me).
Sean Murray, the managing director for Hello Games, began receiving death threats because of the delay. The No Man’s Sky subreddit then began spewing conspiracy theories saying the game was not being delayed, meaning it was all a lie. THAT buzz led to death threats being hurled at Jason Schreier, the Kotaku reported that originally wrote about the then-unconfirmed delay and later mentioned the subreddit.
I mean…really?
Regardless, No Man’s Sky has been delayed. As a person who is really looking forward to naming my first planet a very tasteless name, I am willing to wait a few more months. And if I get any death threats, I guess I won’t be alone.
