As usually happens, screenshots talking about Halloween loot boxes has leaked. The particular leak happened on the Xbox Store. This shows that Blizzard is planning for special event, named Halloween Terror. Players who play during the event that grab loot boxes will receive Halloween-themed loot, similar to the loot for the Olympics. That in itself is not too much of a surprise. Players will now have a chance to nab some ultra-rare sprays, costumes, and victory poses that will ultimately piss off other gamers.
But wait…what’s that on the screenshot? Is that a purple sash under Reaper’s mask? And does that sash have…Sombra’s mask on it?
For those who don’t know, Sombra is a secret character that has been referenced a few times in-game, including a mention by Reaper. According to him, she is supposed to be a cryptographer, and there have been a few cryptographic puzzles about her released by Blizzard. You know, because they’re sadistic bastards.
A group called Game Detectives has been following the attempts to crack the codes. It notes that on a site called A Moment in Crime, the message on the page – along with a secret message in the source code – means that Sombra will be released soon, as in either October 16th or 17th. Don’t ask me how and why; I’ve declared war on math and logic for the day. The Game Detectives site has more details.
Along with the Sombra news, I’m digging the Halloween-themed event. Blizzard has always had an eye for special events. Grumbling about special loot boxes aside, I’m sure this will go over well.
