Overwatch Will Be Free to Play on Console Next Weekend

Overwatch

For those seven people who aren’t already playing Overwatch, there is good news. Blizzard has announced that the game will be free to play for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from September 9th-12th. This free weekend will allow players to try out all 22 heroes and 13 maps. Players will also be able to try out all modes: Custom Game, Play vs. AI, Quick Play, and the latest Weekly Brawl.

Another perk from the free weekend is that any progress made during it will carry over if the player purchases the game afterward. This includes everything gained from Loot Boxes. Unfortunately for my fellow trophy and achievement who…er, hunters, trophies and achievements have been turned off for free play.

The Overwatch free play version is available by searching for “Overwatch Free Weekend” on PSN or “Overwatch: Origins Edition Free Weekend” on Xbox Live. Curiously, PlayStation Plus won’t be required to play, but Xbox Live Gold will.

To say that Overwatch is loved by the Digital Crack staff is a gross understatement. Reaper and Grumpy Joe are salivating for Season 2 of Competitive Mode on PS4; it has reportedly begun already on Xbox One and PC.

He has been playing video games for longer than he would like to admit, and is passionate about all retro games and systems. He also goes to bars with an NES controller hoping that entering the Konami code will give him thirty chances with the drunk chick at the bar. His interests include vodka, old-school games, women, vodka, and women gamers who drink vodka.
