It’s no secret that Pokemon GO has become a worldwide sensation. Despite some hiccups, the game has been immensely popular. The only question was how much revenue it would bring in. Estimates within Digital Crack placed the amount somewhere “not a goddamned penny” to “a gajillion bajillion dollars!” Well, analytics firm Sensor Tower has reported that Pokemon GO made more than “not a goddamned penny”. In fact, it shattered the record for highest earning launch month for a mobile game.
Niantic’s augmented reality game set a new record after raking in over $200 million in worldwide net revenue during its first 32 days. For comparison, the previous record holder, Clash Royale, grossed $120 million during the same time frame. Perpetual mobile success story Candy Crush Soda Saga managed to gross only $25 million during the same time frame. That means Niantic’s title earned more than SEVEN TIMES the amount Candy Crush Soda Saga pulled in during the first 2 days.
One interesting thing to note from the Sensor Tower report is that Pokemon GO was only slightly ahead of Clash Royale in revenues until July 18th. On that day, Pokemon GO was launched in Japan. Revenues for the game skyrocketed after the Japan launch.
Sensor Tower notes that Pokemon GO is still seeing strong use. “Daily usage of Pokémon GO remains on par with our most recent report, averaging about 26 minutes in total.”
