To the surprise of almost no one, Pokemon GO is beginning to lose its luster.
In July, the number of daily users had reached a peak of near 45 million. From the start of August, however, the mobile game has been shedding users significantly. The current tally rests just north of 30 million. The data is provided by Apptopia, Sensor Tower, and SurveyMonkey. This tapering is expected to continue, as daily engagements, downloads, and time spent in-app are decreasing as well.
Bloomberg reported that Pokemon GO’s weakening is a relief to other major mobile apps such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter. It is believed that the popularity of the mobile game has cut into these and other mobile platforms.
“Given the rapid rise in usage of the Pokémon Go app since the launch in July, investors have been concerned that this new user experience has been detracting from time spent on other mobile focused apps,” said Axiom Capital Management analyst Victor Anthony.
Pokemon GO developer Niantic still has plans for the game. Their Facebook page states that the app is “in the process of being updated to version 0.35.0 for Android and 1.5.0 for iOS devices.” They hint at several new features in the works for the game.
