Rare Replay Review

@naryanrobinson:*sigh* I really didn’t want to go into this, but let’s break down the whole thing:

MrFreehuggs says: “You could pirate any game, why would it affect the value of the game?”

You respond with: “Emulating, not pirating. And yes, it does affect the value of a game.”

Emulating is legal if you own the copy of the game and can copy the files from said game and use them in the emulation software. So, sure, ok. But that just means you, as the owner of that copy, wouldn’t be compelled to buy it in any capacity. It doesn’t affect the value of the product in general terms, it affects your need (and thus the value of it for you personally) for it. While before this, you considered its general value with a blanket statement like “I mean really, how many people do you think are going to play all the way through any of these dated 2D games? Honestly now.”

MrFreehuggs says: “Emulating is pirating unless you own an actual copy. Even if you do own it, its still a gray area”

You say: “If you know it’s such a hyper mega awesome super ultra uber game in the first place, then you probably own a copy.”

First of all, MrFreehuggs never even said it’s such a “hyper mega awesome super ultra uber game”, he simply stated a legal fact, that only clarified what you previously said. So where you decide to come up with that comment is really not clear.

MrFreehuggs says: “Nope. I rented Battletoads over and over when I was really young, never actually owned it. The game is 24 years old, I doubt most people managed to keep their copies”

You say: “Once again, if you haven’t got your copy, then no one hasany copy. Because you’re the universal exemplar, whom we all look to for guidance.

I’m out of this convo.”

1. He said most people, which you’ll recognize as not being “no one hasany copy” [sic].

2. He said I “doubt”, not “I am sure beyond a reasonable doubt”. So it was an assumption, not fact, yet you chose to scrutinize it as fact.

MrFreehuggs says: “I would like to summarize the conversation.

No one wants to play Rares 2D games(see:irony)

-They are some of the best 2D games ever

Well I can steal them so they are worthless

-You can steal any game, are they all worthless?

It’s not stealing

-It is if you don’t own it

Every one who wants to play it owns it

-Not so much

So no one owns this game because you don’t”

You say a really long text that I won’t copy paste here since it’s pretty close to my comment, and it can be scrolled to relatively easy.

1. Sure, the “everyone” part was not accurate, but it builds on a point that was already broken from the start, where you assumed that because he thought it was such an awesome game, he probably owned it (he never stated he thought it was an awesome game). So you basically made the indirect point that if anyone were to believe it was awesome (because you weren’t referring to MrFreehuggs), then they probably owned it. So anyone who thinks it’s awesome, and who would want to play it, probably owns it. It’s mostly just an issue with the way you expressed that, and could be misconstrued fairly easily (doesn’t make you or him right, though).

Referring to another point before, it’s not like you don’t have problems with absolute and relative terms, like the whole “most people, which you’ll recognize as not being ‘no one hasany copy’ [sic].”

I won’t get into the arguments about value because you’re right about the difference between something with diminished value and something worthless, but you were still wrong in conveying the difference between personal and absolute value earlier.

So no, no one “lied”. At worst, they misread or misinterpreted statements that were relatively ambiguous, referred to things that were not stated before hand, or were poorly constructed enough to cause a divergence in opinion.

Also, calling someone a “cognitive cripple”, or stating they should ask an adult about this newfangled “dictionary” item, is not just disrespectful and offensive, it shows the level of pedantry that you chose to exhibit simply to smash your fists against your chest and say “I am right in this conversation.”

While your literary prowess does not come into question, wit, just like a sword, does not depend on how sharp it is, but how it is wielded in a conversation. And your technique, I’m afraid, is sorely lacking in that regard.

I’m not going to begin to instruct on the finer points of conversing with other human beings, but I believe that it’s a pity someone who is by no means lacking intellectually, would choose to converse with other in such a primitive and vitriolic way.

I hope you are just doling out some unaddressed anger or frustration, and that the cause of your current unpleasant disposition will be made better soon. If that is not the case, however, I would suggest trying to see if the old adage “You draw more flies with honey than with vinegar.” helps you in any way.
