Red Dead Redemption Finally Hitting Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility

Red Dead Redemption

After lots of requests and a false start, it’s finally going to happen. Red Dead Redemption, the acclaimed 2010 western from Rockstar, will be available on July 8th via the Xbox One backwards compatibility program. If you own a copy of the game for the Xbox 360 – be it the standard version, Undead Nightmare, or the Game of the Year Edition – you will be able to play it on the Xbox One.

For those who do not own the original disc, the game is available for the Xbox 360 on Xbox Live for $7.50 for Gold members. For non-Gold members, it costs $10.50.

Red Dead Redemption is an oft-requested game for the backwards compatibility program. On the Xbox Feedback site, the game is the third most requested game to join the backwards compatibility list. Only Call of Duty: Black Ops II and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have received more votes.

Hopes were high that Red Dead Redemption would finally arrive for backwards compatibility, especially when the game was accidentally made playable on the system earlier this year. Microsoft quickly pulled the game, claiming it was released “due to an error.”
