From Software Working on New Games – Including New Armored Core

From Software president Hidetaka Mayazaki spoke to IGN during Tokyo Game Show about new games that they’re working on. The Dark Souls and Bloodborne developer is currently working on three new games, and one of them is the next title in the mech combat series Armored Core.

“So there are several titles that we are currently working on,” Miyazaki said. “Some of those are dark fantasy, some of those could be a mech [game] – that’s one thing. The second thing is that one of the new titles I’ve been working on will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner.

“The last thing is that another title will probably be a little bit weird. When we actually announce the title, probably fans will react with ‘oh, what the hell is this very weird game that Miyazaki has created?'”

Could that mech game be Armored Core? When pressed by IGN, Miyazaki said, “Yeah, we’re already working on Armored Core.” He didn’t elaborate.

“There are still several obstacles we need to overcome to launch those new titles, so we’re not sure how many more years we need to build those, but we’re looking forward to making an announcement in the future.”

Dark Souls will definitely not be one of the three games. Miyazaki has stated that Dark Souls III “is the end” for the series. However, the hope is that the upcoming title that “will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner” might be a game in that style, like Bloodborne.

The news on Armored Core is welcome indeed. The cult favorite series focuses on players building and arming their own mech, called Armored Cores, and piloting them in third-person shooting missions. The series is a personal favorite, and I’ve been hoping for another entry in the series since Armored Core: Verdict Day hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.
