Usually, when a developer or publisher removes a feature in a game, player outrage is soon to follow. When EA and DICE removed one particular feature from Star Wars Battlefront, however, players rejoiced.
A recent patch for the game, coinciding with the new Death Star expansion, lists a bevy of changes. Tucked well within the “General” section of the patch’s notes is one seemingly-innocuous entry:
“Appearance: With the arrival of the Imperial Officers, the certification for Stormtroopers to remove their helmets in combat has been withdrawn.”
The ability for a Stormtrooper to have his or her helmet off during gameplay was something that seriously rankled players. With the patch announcement, they took to the Star Wars Battlefront forums to sing their praises.

YES!!! This is something they definitely got right for sure. A long time coming this was. So great to get into a Supremacy match and see all Stormtroopers reporting for duty with helmets on.
One popular subreddit with the title “Helmet-less Stormtroopers are gone” has caught fire, with scores of people extremely pleased with the news.
Funny thing is, I get it. When you play a game like Star Wars Battlefront, you want to feel immersed in the game’s world. This is more so in a game set in the Star Wars universe, where players want to feel like a part of the game. Helmet-less Stormtroopers are not visible in combat within the Star Wars canon. That would definitely take a player out of the game.
The helmetless option will still be available for other character builds not named Boba Fett or Darth Vader.
