”Zebby… We’re home.”

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
Arguably the least fleshed out member of the Ghost crew up until now got his own episode this week, and it was a really strong spotlight for Zeb – or Captain Zeb, as we discovered.
The back-and-forth Zeb had between processing the incredible fact that at least two of his people were alive, mixed with his resentment for their pacifist, spiritual ways, was an interesting place to put the usually comical character in – and it was great to see Ezra flat out ask Zeb why he was acting so strangely, in the face of what was such amazing news. Zeb’s story, about the fall of Lasan and the destruction of the palace, and how he felt responsible, was an impactful beat as well.
It was also very interesting, through these new Lasat, Chava and Gron, to learn about their belief in the “spirit of the galaxy,” and how it was considered another way to reference the Force. This episode touched upon the more spiritual side of the Force, as Zeb, had a powerful experience helping guide the Ghost safely through that anomaly and to the lost planet of Lirasan.

And what a sequence that was! This was a huge standout episode of Kevin Kiner, the excellent composer who’s created a ton of great music for both The Clone Wars and Rebels. But he perhaps outdid himself here, with that moving, stirring piece of music as the Ghost breached the anomaly, with Zeb using his Bo-Rifle, to lead the way – just a beautiful theme that added a different touch to the Star Wars music landscape.
In the midst of this, there was some very funny material as well, provided by Hondo. The way he kept betraying everyone was great and oh-so in character, as he tipped off the Empire about a group of refugees, then tipped off the Rebels to rescue the refugees, then tipped off the Empire about the Rebels’ escaping, then tipped off Ezra about the Stormtroopers coming after them and then was trying to help Kallus track down the Ghost – for a fee, of course.
I don’t think we’ve seen an episode really centered on Zeb since the fourth episode of Season 1, and that was the notably weak Zeb and Ezra adventure, “Fighter Flight.” That being the case, it was gratifying to have this episode do a strong job of adding more layers to Zeb, and offering an emotional, powerful journey for him in the process.
