Konami, the Japanese pachinko company that used to make video games, owns some of the most beloved franchises in video game history: Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, Contra, Silent Hill, and Sunset Riders, just to name a few. Now, a new campaign has started with the hope of getting another of their beloved series on Steam.
The Suikoden Revival Movement launched a campaign on June 3rd, called #SuikodenOnSteam, which aims to flood Konami’s social media accounts with requests to get the venerable JRPG series onto Steam. The first two Suikoden games are available for Windows in China, so it doesn’t seem like a terrible ask of Konami.
The Suikoden Revival Movement is not a new outfit. Their Facebook page has over 28,000 likes and shows numerous posts from fans, many of whom are passionate about Suikoden in ways I envy. The Facebook page even includes an interview with the creator of the series, Yoshitaka Murayama. Sadly, he doesn’t envision doing as Kickstarter for a new Suikoden entry, and I think it’s a given Konami will not release one themselves.
I have the first two games on the original Playstation and III on the PS2, I bought the PS1 Classic of the first game on the PS3, and I STILL would love to have the entire Suikoden collection on Steam. I have joined the movement and really hope that it succeeds. It’s not like Konami has endeared itself to video game fans lately, but this is a righteous movement. I hope, as many do, that Konami grants Suikoden fans this one desire. Then they can go back to pachinko.
