In the not so distant future, a team of astronauts are sent to Mars. Early on in there stay on the great red planet a storm threatens the teams’ survival. After an emergency take off the team barely makes it off Mars, unfortunately one member didn’t make it onto the launch craft. He is left to survive alone while the rest of the world tries to figure how to bring him home.
First I have to say well done to the team that put together this great film. From the build up to the very end I felt like I was bearing witness to a true story. As if I were living in the future watching a History Channel documentary about the first people on Mars.
This film did not exaggerate or leave me in a cloud of CGI. The grounded story depicted the natural state of man, to survive. In that survival I felt a connection to the lead character as he battled with his own mind to stay with it, to figure out one problem at a time, and not give up no matter the odds.
The scenery was that of how we all imagine Mars, lifeless covered in red and rock. But in that bleak environment was something really amazing. Knowing that you are the first to touch, to climb, and to see in person. To know that sunset and sunrise was all yours. Although surviving is often a lonely and very hard experience it can, like in this film, illuminate goodness and beauty where a person not fighting the odds would miss it completely.
This film will make you think, will make you nervous, laugh, and excited for the future. I give it 4 out 5 stars. I hope you all enjoy.
