“In case you haven’t caught on, I just slipped my dick down your throat and you thanked me for it.” – Negan
Little pig, little pig, let me in so I can provide you this episode 4 review. Warning: there will be slight spoiler.
So to start off, Negan is a dick, but we all know that. I enjoy every moment he is on the screen. Within the Walking Dead world, it has been a week since the death of Abraham and Glenn, so it’s time for the “Saviors” to collect. We see two stories going on here: what’s happening within Alexandria and the hunt for Daryl’s motorcycle
A lot of callbacks to the comics are in this episode. Hell, the episode WAS the comic. There were just a few extra things, but it was almost the same thing. From the way Negan introduced himself to having Rick hold Lucille, the show was the same in the comic. Rick finally told the group within Alexandria that he is no longer in charge, since being broken down after their first meeting with Negan. Rick doesn’t want to do anything that will make him lose anyone else, so he is just accepting this is how they will live.
The pacing was perfect and felt oh-so-right. It’s like we are watching issue 103 and 104 of the comics on the small screen. Four people stood out in their own ways, and yes, Negan is one of them because he is an asshole. From the way he carries on to the way he speaks, this role is being perfected by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. You can see that Carl doesn’t agree with what is going on and wants to show that he isn’t afraid of the Saviors. Carl is also disappointed, mostly towards his father for being scared. To even go and threaten Negan himself with, as Negan likes to say, “your giant man-size balls” shows how upset he is.
Even though Father Gabriel wasn’t on screen for a long time, he did do his part well, with some quick thinking and with the creepy way he just looked when first encountering Negan. The last person that did well was, of course, Rick himself. Being broken down and afraid to lose anyone, he is willing to follow whatever Negan says just to survive. But you can still see some rage within his eyes.
I enjoyed everything from this episode and those were my pros on it, but what about the cons? Michonne wasn’t used much and I didn’t expect her to be used too much within this episode. The way certain people acted were bland and certain things felt like there wasn’t much thought into it. But in the end, this was a very well done episode and worth the watch. For those of you who haven’t picked up the comic and are interested, you should go and read it because it is getting good. You can compare the comic to the show to see what is different and what they have kept.
