Out with a thud
“You ever hear the one about the stupid little prick named Rick who thought he knew shit but didn’t know shit and got everyone he cared about killed?” – Negan
So I had to binge watch the last 5 episodes of The Walking Dead because I have been busy with everything. I have been waiting to see the season finale. There will be some spoilers ahead.
So here’s the thing: I was going to re-watch this episode once more because I saw it while at work. Then I remembered something: this episode sucked fucking donkey balls! It is sad that the 4 episodes before the season finale were more interesting than this episode.
We pick up right after Rick and crew went out gun shopping at Oceanside and Dwight was at Alexandria waiting for them to convince Rick that he wants to help kill Negan. Also, we get to see if Sasha lived or died at the end of the previous episode and she’s alive. The Sasha portion of this episode felt like a goodbye episode for the character, even asking Eugene for help on getting out of Sanctuary. She had a dialogue in her mind with Abraham, which was nice to see again.
The Kingdom is preparing to go to war with the Saviors; the Hilltop is just trying to survive. Gregory knowing that something is going on and doesn’t trust Maggie being there. He decides to go ahead to locate Negan and let him know who has been staying at Alexandria. One thing they did get correct within the series is how much of a coward Gregory is and how he cannot be trusted. I didn’t like him in the comics, and I sure as hell do not like him in the show. So they did something right.
Everything is planned out where Alexandria and the Junkyard people would go head to head with Negan and the Saviors. After Negan sends out Eugene to tell Rick to stand down, it all goes downhill from there. The Junkyard people betray Rick, so we are back to Negan having control once more. Then a fucking tiger comes in! The best thing about the whole episode is the damn tiger going at it with the Saviors. The Hilltop and the Kingdom join in the fight, but Negan was able to escape. Yes, this was basically the whole damn plot and yes, I have skipped a lot of things because, frankly, I didn’t care.
The writers attempted to make this episode emotional for Sasha like they did with the death of Glenn or the death of Hershel. Making a character who ended up being strong to basically give up at the end was pure horseshit! The start of the war was also weak. It wasn’t like what we saw during the Prison season. This was the weakest season finale of one of the weakest seasons of all The Walking Dead. I spoke earlier with Punisher and told him what I thought of the episode. I also told him how the best episode of this season was the death of Glenn and Abraham, two beloved characters.
Yes, we did get a lot of memorable moments from the comics on the small screen. But the whole season was not up to par, there was no way for the finale to live up to the hype it was given. I didn’t care for Eugene getting captured, and Carl sneaking into Sanctuary was an OK episode. Did I enjoy this episode? No, and I wish I hadn’t seen it, either. Do I hope that Season 8 will be better? Oh, for sure.
This is what has to happen: get the war storyline over with, Sad to say it will be over with, so no spoilers there. Once that is done – and it may be done at the mid-season finale – we may be able to start to get into the Whisperers storyline. Don’t know who they are? Well, it gets interesting from that storyline. But let’s see if they stick to the comics on that part or the writers go a different way.
So what did you guys think of the season finale? Leave a comment and let us know.
