For those of you who couldn’t wait any longer, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One S 2TB model will launch on August 2 for a MSRP of $399. Well, that didn’t take long!
The Xbox One S was formally announced during E3. It’s a slimmer version of the VCR-like original, with a 40% smaller form factor and a built-in power supply (HALLELUJAH!) It will also support 4K video, which will make specific games like Gears of War 4 “look even better”. It will not, however, support full 4K gaming; that is the domain of Scorpio, which is due out sometime next year. The best part – well, other than the built-in power supply – is the added USB port mounted in front.
The Xbox One S will debut alongside the new “textured grip” controller. It is also slightly slimmer and is supposed to be easier to grip.
There is no firm date on when the other Xbox One S models will launch. Microsoft states that “…more details on the specific availability dates of these two options will be shared soon.”
