YouTube Red: Cobra Kai impressions

YouTube Red: Cobra Kai impressions

I’m a huge Karate Kid fan. no, not the 2010 version with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith but 1984 The Karate Kid. Everything about that movie was just awesome! They came out with 3 sequels which were great as well but the most memorable was the first one. Well, that movie has some amazing lines you can’t forget like:  wax on wax off, Finish Him!, and of course Sweep the leg.  But all of us wanted to see Daniel and Johnny go at it once more. And we do just 34 years later. But this is an interesting view of our characters.  The plot Cobra Kai takes place 34 years after the original film and follows a “down-and-out Johnny Lawrence, who seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso, who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. The show is about two men addressing past demons and present frustrations and the only way they know how is through karate.

Now honestly I loved this! Also gave me a new look on Johnny’s life. I really feel bad for him and makes me wonder who was the real bully from the original movie and this show. Of course in the movie we see Johnny picking on Daniel for reasons I think you should see the movie before seeing this show. The Digital Crack Team agree that Daniel was the bully from the film because reasons I can’t say here lol but are they right?

To me, Cobra Kai is just like the movie just that our so-called bad guy Johnny is actually the good guy and Daniel is the bad guy. Johnny helps a young man “Miguel” that lives in his same building by teaching him some karate to defend himself from these bullies that would pick on him and beat him up. While teaching Miguel, Johnny re-opens the Cobra Kai school to bring in new students and make money but he runs into a lot of issues while trying to open the school due to Daniel and his problem against Johnny.  I honestly say if you have Youtube red I think you should see Cobra Kai and with that being said I’m giving Cobra Kai the Punisher seal of approval to see it!

I really enjoyed Cobra Kai and how they use actual footage from the movie and pictures while taking a different look at our characters from another point of view.  To me, I would have to say that Daniel is the villain of this story while Johnny is the underdog trying to come up from his messed up life but I would really like to hear from you all. What did you think of Cobra Kai? Did you like it, hate it, with it was on Netflix? Do you think this show would be better if Netflix got a hold of it or is it better where it’s at? I want to read your comments 🙂
