World of Warcraft Legion Review

World of Warcraft was a game that had seemingly lost its place.  In the eyes of players, like me, who had put years into the MMORPG – and especially those who had cut their teeth during the “vanilla” years – WoW was washed up. The Warlords of Draenor expansion was generally accepted as a vastly inferior product. Interest in the MMO dwindled, and players fled like birds from gunfire. World of Warcr...[Read More]

Retro Review: Custer’s Revenge (Atari 2600)

Release Date: September 23, 1982 Developer: Mystique Publisher: Mystique The second generation of video games was literally the Wild West. Nowhere was this more evident that when it came to video game releases. Nowhere was thi...[Read More]

Retro Review: Willow (NES)

Release Date: July 18, 1989 Developer: Capcom Publisher: Capcom Back in the early days of video games, movie tie-in games were seen as cheap cash-ins. In a way, they still are now, but they’re mainly released on mobile phones for dirt cheap. But the movie tie-ins of the 80s were made to be played on home consoles and sold at $40-50. Yes, there were some good movie-licensed games back then, like Ba...[Read More]

Retro Review: River Raid (Atari 2600)

When discussing the first commercially successful video game console, most readily mention the Atari Video Computer System, aka the Atari VCS or 2600. When asked who the first third-party publisher of video games was, the video game cognoscenti rapidly point to Activision. But who is credited as the f...[Read More]

Never Tried: Street Fighter V

I’ve been a big Street Fighter fan since Street Fighter II: The World Warrior way back in 1991. As such, I wanted to play Street Fighter V on the PlayStation 4 prior to launch. I didn’t buy in, though, because I’m against pre-orders on principle – something that rankles Grumpy Joe to no end. Also, there’s no Akuma. Thanks, Capcom! Unfortunately, Capcom justified all the reasons I have for not pre-...[Read More]
